Bodaganj is a village in the Baikunthapur forest area close to Siliguri and Jalpaiguri towns. The area is close to river Teesta and is considered to be a place of historical significance. It is believed that Decoit Queen Devi Choudhurani and her ‘Guru’ Bhabani Pathak ruled the area and its forests. Bodaganj area is also home to Bhamri Devi temple which is one of the 51 piths of the Sakti sect. The area is close to the Teesta river and there are places around Bodaganj that are attractive to nature lovers as well.
Getting There
Bodaganj is close to both Siliguri and Jalpaiguri town. There are several routes leading here. The easiest to follow is via Fatapukur, a small town midway between Jalpaiguri – Siliguri highway. From Fatapukur drive to Belakoba (4 km) from here, village roads will lead you to Bodaganj about 10 km away.
Around Bodaganj
Bhamri Devi temple is adjacent to Bodaganj village and is just 5 minute walk from the village. The temple premise has idols of Shiva and Parvati and several other deities. Locals as well as people from the surrounding area visit here in large numbers. The temples of Bhabani Pathak and Devi Choudhurani are significant places but for the uninitiated tourists, the temple comes out as quite mundane. Shikarpur Tea garden nearby is also a good place to spend some time. Gajaldoba barrage is quite near Bodaganj and can be visited easily from here.
