We have experience in handling varied clientele including film groups, school children, NGOs, corporate guests, and others.
Unlike most of north-east India, foreign tourists do not need restricted area permits to visit North Bengal. Although the region is worth a dekko in its own right, it can also be seen as a go-between other major tourist destinations.
Darjeeling is arguably the oldest and the most famous of all the destinations in the northeast, the hills of Kalimpong is also getting their fair share of attention.
The importance of Dooars stems from the fact that you can visit Dooars either as part of your Darjeeling-Sikkim tour (which requires an extra journey of about 100 km only), or it can be visited on your way to the Kingdom of Bhutan or the State of Assam. The name Dooars is derived from the word Doors, since it is the gateway to the north-east and Bhutan.
The Dooars have tremendous potential for jungle and offbeat tourism activity. The ethnic groups of Dooars include Rava, Toto, Gorkha, Lepcha, Bhutia, Santhals, and many others. Dooars is the melting pot of different ethnic groups. Customized cultural tours are organized by HUMRO TOURS which includes homestay at ethnic villages which helps in close interaction of local people and their culture. HUMRO TOURS plays an active role in voluntary activity in a large number of these villages which has led to a very good village-level network throughout the region. Guests interested in participating in community development activities are also served by HUMRO TOURS on a non-profit basis.
The forests of the Dooars are what attract the bulk of the tourists. The forests include Gorumara National Park, Neora Valley National Park, Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary, Buxa Tiger Reserve, and a large number of other forests. HUMRO TOURS organizes tours in all these forests. The tours include staying inside / close to the jungle, elephant or jeep safari inside the forests for animal sighting, bird watching, angling, visiting animal rescue centres, and a horde of other activities.
Dooars is also important because of its historical significance. The kingdom of the Cooch king still has its reminisce in the Coochbihar Palace and other places around.
The other important tourist area in the region is the Darjeeling Hills. Apart from the well-known hill town of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Mirik are the other two famous tourist spots in the hills.
For offbeat tourists, several smaller destinations have come up in the recent past which include Lava-Lolegaon, Damthang, Tinchuley, Kalijhora, Tista, Latpanchar, Rohini, and others. In some of these places, homestays can as well be organized.
Adventure activities can be organized throughout the region. The most common activity is a trek to Sandakphu and rafting on river Tista. HUMRO TOURS has the infrastructure to organize several other adventure alternatives including offbeat treks in the forests, camps, biking tours, etc.
