Tabakoshi is a new offbeat tourist destination close to Mirik in the Darjeeling district. The name Tabakoshi originates from two Nepali words, Taba means copper and Koshi means river. Tabakoshi is located in the Lower division of Pokhriabong Rangbhang valley and is also known as Tea Village. It is surrounded by 8 tea gardens, such as Gopaldhara, Siyok, Turzum, Sungma, Chamong, Magarjung, Thurbu and Nagri tea estates.
The village is located in the valley created by the Rangbhang river which flows through the village. Tourists can enjoy the fresh breeze with the strain of birds and can enjoy a fresh bath in the river as well. It is the best place for River camp, Jungle camp, Fishing, Rock Climbing, and Bird Watching. You can take an evening stroll with the sight of foggy clouds or an early morning walk with the sun emerging over the river valley. The curving roads through the hills and the luscious tea garden of Gopaldhara Tea Estate turns are perfect to spend some leisurely time. The orange orchards during winter which get covered with juicy bright oranges are also popular among tourists. The Shiv Temple beside the river and a large swimming pool near the old iron bridge are there for complete relaxation for tourists.
Places to Visit
Local - Lord Siva Temple and Lord Bishnu Temple is an attractions for tourists. A walk through the tea garden and a visit to the tea factory is a must. You can gather some fishing rods locally and go fishing in the Rangbhang river and an Orchid House full of verities of Orchid and a Ginger farm will amaze you. Tingling View Point offers a panoramic view of the tea gardens. Rameetay Dara is another viewpoint near the town from where one can see the surrounding mountains and the vast plains below.
Visit Mirik
Mirik viewpoint on the way to Mirik is another local attraction, from here you can have a clear view of the Tabaoshi area. Bokar Monastery is located on the way to Rameetay Dara and is famous as a Buddhist meditation centre. Debisthan is a temple of a Hindu goddess located near Sumendu lake. Mirik Church is located near Don Bosco School. One of the most beautiful and of bigger catholic churches in the Darjeeling district. Orange Orchards is famous for its high-quality oranges and tourist can buy as many as they want. These all are grown in Mirik Busty, Murmah, and Soureni Busty. Mirik has one of the best climates for a typical orchid called Cymbidium orchids. One such Cymbidium orchid garden is also located in Rato Mate in Mirik. Sumendu Lake is the heart of Mirik. It has an 80 ft (24 m) long footbridge over the lake. One can opt for boating in the lake or take a horse ride around the lake.
