If adventure is in your blood, this is the tour for you. If you believe that life is more about the journey and less about the destination, this is the tour for you. In 9 days you will crisscross the Darjeeling hills on a mountain bike. The tour uses international standard equipment and is one of our common programs for inbound travellers. This tour starts at Mirik on the western side of Darjeeling Hills and ends at Lava which is in the easternmost part of Darjeeling Himalaya.
Best time to visit
Anytime except the monsoon months (July - August).
Arrival at Siliguri. Rest and prepare for the tour. Overnight at Siliguri.
Day 2
Start for Mirik (52 km) early in the day. The days of biking involve climbing to an elevation of about 4900 ft through winding ghat roads and lush green tea gardens on the rolling hill slopes. The first 30 kilometres are through the plains for you to acclimatize. You gain the elevation only in the last leg of today’s biking. Mirik is a small town centred around a lake. In the evening you may take a walk around the lake Samendu. Overnight: Mirik
Day 3
Mirik - Darjeeling (50km, 6700 ft). The route goes via the Nepal border town of Pasupati. You may take a break at Sukiapokhri and visit the Salamander project there. At Ghoom you reach the highest railway station in India at an altitude of 7407 feet. From here the last 10 km to Darjeeling involves downhill biking. The altitude gain during the day is mostly gradual. Overnight: Darjeeling
Day 4
Today we take a break from biking and go for some walking instead. Get up early in the morning and trek for a couple of hours to reach the famous Tiger Hill (8500 ft) viewpoint for a beautiful view of the sunrise over Kanchenjunga. Walk back downhill to your hotel. After breakfast go for a walk around the town including Zoo, HMI, Darjeeling Mall, Botanical Garden etc. Overnight at Darjeeling.
Day 5
Today you will bike to Tinchuley (32 km, 6000 ft). You will be passing through Peshok Road during the first half of your journey. Till Ghoom you follow the same route as on the second day. From Ghoom the road goes through the misty pine forests. The route offers some of the best views in the region. From the 6th mile village, you take a turn and drive through a narrow less travelled trail till you reach Tinchuley. The name Tinchuley is composed of “tin” meaning three and “Chulah” meaning a hearth. This is a small village that WWF has promoted as an ideal eco-tourism destination. Overnight at Tinchuley.
Day 6
Today you cycle to Kalimpong (4100 ft). The Kalimpong town is on the other side of River Tista. The distance is about 40 km. You have to bike downhill to reach Tista Bazar. Here you will cross river Tista and then bike through the steep uphill roads during the last 16 odd km. Overnight at Kalimpong.

Spend some time at Delo and then start for Rishyop (8500 ft). The 4000 feet increase in elevation is mostly gradual and there is no major steep inclination. The last 3 km to Rishyap is through rocky terrain which might be difficult to ride and may require some walking. Overnight at Rishyap.
Day 8
Today we will leave the hill and come down to Dooars plains. The destination is Mongpong, a nice forest bungalow on the banks of river Tista. You have to cycle a total distance of 70 km.
