- The people of North Bengal are also a varied lot. The tea gardens brought in Tribals from Bengal and Bihar. The hill stations attracted people from neighboring Nepal, and the partition of 1947 brought in Hordes of Bengalis from Bangladesh.
- The Hills, the jungles and the serene beauty of undulating tea gardens spread to the horizon.

Hotel Windamere - Darjeeling
Hotel Type - Heritage
Hotel Windamere is arguably the best place to stay in the entire Sikkim - Darjeeling area. It is also probably the most expensive hotel in the region. The hotel has preserved the Raj aura in an authentic atmosphere.
Hotel Windamere is located in a commanding position in the heart of Darjeeling town. It is just a stones throw away from Darjeeling Mall, the principle promenade of the hill station. The hotel covers part of the top of observatory hills and offers excellent view of the surrounding mountains including the Kanchenjunga range (the third highest mountain in the world).
Windamere was originally a 19th century boarding house, built for bachelors and British & Scottish Tea Planters. It was converted into a hotel in 1939, just before the outbreak of World War second. The hotel consists of two sections, the first is " The Windamere" which is furnished in traditional colonial style. This wing includes a honeymoon cottage. "Little Windamere" on the other hand has all modern facililties and decor.
Services & Facilities
Multi-cuisine Restaurant, Entertainment, Horse Riding, Room Service, Lounges, Library, Sitting Room, Baby-sitting, Doctor on Call, etc. The hotel maintains a old world charm. There is no TV in the rooms and telephone is availble on request only in parts of the hotel. Little Windamere although offers these facilities.
